“Open Letter Urging Release of Imprisoned Journalists and Protection of Freedom of Speech Sent to Head of EU Delegation in Armenia”

The members of the editing team of AntiFake.am and the “Civic Intelligence” NGO have sent a letter to the Head of the European Union Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Maria Peichinovich Burich.

The letter was sent today during the visit of the Head of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Armenia to the building of the RA NSS in connection with the ongoing investigation of the case.

“Dear Madam Burich,

Welcome to Armenia. We inform you that your visit to the Republic of Armenia is accompanied by protests of political detainees and their supporters demanding the release of imprisoned journalists and the protection of their freedom of speech, as well as the conditions of their detention. Our country’s human rights defenders are filled with complaints against law enforcement agencies, while independent journalists are being prosecuted. They are political prisoners. Our country’s cultural figures are intimidated and persecuted. These are political persecutions.

The victory of Mamikon Aslanyan, who won in the Vanadzor elections in the third largest city in Armenia, is also significant, as he has been in freedom for 2 years and 3 months.

The Executive Secretary of the Republican Party of Armenia, representing the ruling body of the RPA, Aram Asatryan, who has been involved in construction for 10 months, is also arrested while under arrest,

David Malayan, an independent journalist, writer, and human rights activist, who has been detained for 7 months for his online publications,

The founder of AntiFake.am, the Secretary of Civic Intelligence NGO, and the editor of “Imnamimi” magazine, Narek Samsonyan, who has been released from custody for 18 days and is under house arrest due to the lawsuit filed by the Chief of Staff of the Republic of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan.

Also under house arrest is the editor, author, and journalist Vazgen Saghatelyan, who has been released from custody for 18 days and is under house arrest due to the lawsuit filed by the Chief of Staff of the Republic of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan.

All the above-mentioned persons are known as victims of Pashinyan’s regime. Considering the fact that you are well-informed about the ongoing events in Armenia, we urge you to take urgent action to persuade your partners to impose preconditions on accepting Armenia’s republic administration, without any interference from EU representatives. We ask you to intervene in the current situation in Armenia with the aim of the immediate release of the abovementioned persons from the Armenian political detention centers and to take adequate actions in the context of the EU foreign policy.

At the same time, we are confident that this issue is not only about Azerbaijan, but it is a global example of unacceptable territories in which human rights violations occur. Similar actions will lead to repetition and persecution by the persecutors.

Therefore, we call on you to publicly address all the above-mentioned issues and demands in the framework of the EEU agenda and to act with a clear commitment to freeing those political prisoners from the Armenian captivity.

Sincerely,

The editorial team of AntiFake.am
