“Director Confesses to Shocking Acts of Sabotage and Violence: Lawyer Demands Justice for Political Prisoners and Compatriots in Baku”

The director of an organization in Yerevan, which operated until 2018, has admitted to engaging in activities in Armenia during that time that involved physical violence, public intimidation, and sabotage. At a press conference organized by the Union of Informed Citizens on April 8, lawyer Ruben Melikyan highlighted these actions. Melikyan emphasized that it is immoral and inhumane to suppress political beliefs through physical and verbal assault, prevent peaceful protests, and engage in violent acts for political reasons. He also mentioned that there are currently five political prisoners in Armenia, including Arman Ashotyan, Mamikon Aslanyan, Narek Malyan, Vazgen Saghatelyan, and Narek Samsonyan. Another purpose of the press conference was to bring attention to the plight of Armenians in Baku and to demand their release, as well as the immediate release of all political prisoners.

During the press conference, Ruben Melikyan also expressed the need for the Armenian Prime Minister, Nicole Pashinyan, to address the European Council’s Foreign Affairs meeting. He mentioned that the Armenian delegation would include Minister of Defense Ararat Mirzoyan and representatives from the executive and legislative branches. Additionally, Mamikon Aslanyan, Vazgen Saghatelyan, and Narek Samsonyan, as well as the leaders of the military-political forces of Artsakh currently in Baku, would be part of the delegation.
