“Nikol Pashinyan’s False Promise: First Armenian Hi-Tech Factory Fails to Deliver on Televisions”

The “Zhoghovurd” daily newspaper reported in 2018 that during a pre-election rally in Vanadzor, Nikol Pashinyan announced the opening of the first modern industrial plant in Armenian history. The plant was supposed to produce high-tech products, including a local brand of televisions. However, this statement turned out to be false. On December 5, 2018, the administration released a statement clarifying that Nikol Pashinyan was actually attending the opening ceremony of the “I Am G” LLC production plant in Merdzavan, Armavir region. This plant is a joint venture between Armenian, Lebanese, and Syrian investors and will produce high-tech products with an initial investment of 4.5 million US dollars.

The factory is expected to have 70-80 employees in the initial phase and will manufacture 126,000 units of high-tech products per year, including televisions, refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines, and electronics. Additionally, the Minister of Economy and Investments of the Republic of Armenia, Tigran Khachatryan, announced that the production of high-tech products has already commenced at the factory. However, there have been reports contradicting this claim, stating that the factory is not operational yet.

Nikol Pashinyan emphasized the significance of establishing a foundation for high-tech production in Armenia and assured continued government support for investment programs across various sectors of the economy. The newspaper also mentioned the announcement made by the “I Am G” company regarding the availability of Armenian-produced televisions in the market. However, the head of the “Verification of Facts Department” could not verify this information as Armenian-produced televisions were not found in the “I Am G” network of electronics stores.
