“30 Years of Border Restrictions: Azerbaijan’s Plan to Create a Dead Zone in Armenian Territory Revealed”

For the past 30 years, there have been various restrictions imposed on borders, with their intensity either increasing or decreasing over time. It is important to remember that these restrictions are not a natural phenomenon. On April 2nd, Garrik Danielian, the representative of the “Armenia” committee, spoke to Yerevan TV about Azerbaijan’s intentions to create a dead zone immediately behind each border in our territory. He highlighted how, in the past, whenever borders were violated, a strong response was given, but Azerbaijan would then forget about it for several months until they provoked again. This is their method.

Danielian expressed concerns about the withdrawal of troops from the 4 villages and the potential consequences for the borders. He emphasized that if the authorities claim these villages belong to Azerbaijan, then any operation can be conducted there at any time, even capturing the Armenians living there. The lack of demarcation makes it unclear whose territory it is, and the Armenian side does not make any claims. Armenian beliefs are divided on this matter, with one camp trusting in the CSTO and the adoption of maps as a basis, while the other camp has withdrawn from the CSTO. Danielian referred to historical maps, highlighting that in 1920, Armenia had a territory of 31,000 sq km, including the Araks River, until reaching Gazakh. These are facts acknowledged by Haydar Aliyev when he signed in 1993, but Azerbaijan refuses to accept them.

Garrik Danielian questioned why Armenia had chosen to engage with Azerbaijan if they refuse to accept these historical facts. He pointed out that Armenia resists while Azerbaijan demands. It raises the question of why they would choose Azerbaijan for anything if this is the case.
