“Expert Questions Need for Academic City Amidst Complex National Issues, Calls for Focused Problem-solving”

The concept of an academic city is time-dependent, as our country faces increasingly complex issues. Lencer Aghalovyan, the academic leader-curator of the division of mathematics and technological sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia (NAS RA), expressed this view in an interview with NEWS.am. Aghalovyan believes that the creation of an academic system and its implementation is necessary only if a country has the necessary resources, as it requires significant financial investment. He cited examples of scientific centers, such as the famous one in Novosibirsk, that were created to solve specific problems rather than just for the sake of having a central center. Aghalovyan emphasized the need for a conceptual vision to address the pressing problems faced by Armenia, such as anti-aircraft aircraft, and highlighted the importance of cooperation in finding solutions.

In addition to the challenges associated with an academic city, Aghalovyan also raised concerns about the convergence of institutions and the preservation of their identities. He stated that it is unclear how institutions will come together and maintain their individual names and characteristics. Aghalovyan mentioned that they have approached the government with a proposal and have offered to collaborate extensively with experts. He specifically highlighted the need for practical mobility in laboratory work.
