“Concerns Mount as Yerevan Services Cut, Officials Promise Replacement Program: Exclusive Report”

Citizens in the capital city are expressing concerns over the reduction of services. Opinions on this topic vary, with some arguing that the decrease in services is unacceptable, while others believe that suitable alternatives are not being provided. The official statement suggests that many services in Yerevan are either incomplete or close to completion.

Recently, “Past” newspaper contacted the Mayor’s Office and Minister of Urban Development and Preservation Artur Khachatryan to request clarification on the current situation and the actions being taken. Khachatryan stated, “We have a program for the replacement of services, which was approved and initiated in 2023. The replacement of services began in the Moskovyan section, and this year, work has started in the Shengavit administrative district. The area from Bagratunyats Street to Arshisyan Crossroad, which marks the end of the current working area, is being replaced with glass prototyping services.”

The replacement of services on Tumanyan Street also commenced on March 23 and is being carried out by the Saryan- Tumanyan Construction Company. Khachatryan informed, “We have completed the work from Mesrop Mashtots Bridge to Elderly Care Center, and today the work is continuing from Mesrop Mashtots Bridge to Teryan Crossroad.” The primary objective of replacing services on Tumanyan Street is to improve traffic flow. Additionally, approximately 160 trees are expected to be replaced with 200 new trees, with some already being replaced.

A scientific workshop held on February 23 in Yerevan Municipality saw the participation of 30 prominent scientists, public representatives, and government officials. It was concluded during the workshop that the replacement of services is necessary and that the program has been approved and initiated. The mayor has also provided instructions to seek technical advice from scientists and experts in relevant fields.

The program not only includes the replacement of services but also focuses on street lighting, cleanliness, and maintaining a balance of heating. Streets such as Arshakunyats, Gayi, Azatutyan, and Mesrop Mashtots, among others, will undergo improvements, such as winterizing the soil with sunflowers and removing weeds. Artur Khachatryan concludes by stating that for more detailed information, readers can refer to the current edition of the newspaper.
