46 high-tech schools with high-level security will be established in Armenia by 2027, according to Vache Terteryan, the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure. This announcement was made during a discussion of the loan agreement for the “Safe Seismic Program (additional financing)” at the National Assembly. The program, which began in 2015, is being implemented through a loan agreement between the Government of Armenia and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The total budget for the program is $107 million, with $88.5 million being loans and $18.5 million provided by the state budget. The main focus of the program is the construction or renovation of 46 schools and ensuring the safety of 22.5 thousand students. It also includes the development of new seismic construction norms and the creation of seismic certification systems. Within the program, 16 schools have already been built and put into operation, while 20 schools are currently under construction. The construction is expected to be completed in 2026, with preliminary work being carried out in 10 additional schools. By 2027, all 46 schools will be fully operational. 7 schools will be completed by 2024, and the construction of another 10 will begin at a later date. It is important to note that 80% of the allocated funds for the program have already been spent.
