“2000-Year-Old Roman Goddess Sculpture Unearthed at British Car Construction Site”

A 2000-year-old Roman sculpture has been discovered near a car construction site in Great Britain, as reported by CNN.

Greg Crool, the driver of the excavator, found the marble head of a Roman goddess at Burghley House, a village settlement from the 16th century, during restoration works.

Two weeks ago, a quarry was discovered near the original site. The fragments were cleaned, examined, and collected by an archaeologist, who assigned it to the 1st or 2nd century.

Experts have noted that the statue had an additional headband added to it, allowing it to be attached to a statue or a monument, which is historically attributed to Italian merchants in the 18th century when travelling to Italy.

It is believed that in the 1760s, during his two journeys, one of the members of the commission brought numerous artifacts, including the head, to Burghley.

Braunle Sesil, the 9th commission of Exeter, a knight who was knighted in 1754, was a famous traveler and collector of antiquities and not only.

Moreover, it is not yet clear how the head and the statue ended up in the river, under the car construction site.
