“Mayor’s Representative Admits Violating Military-Patriotic Organization; Fugitive Activist Accused of Spreading False Information: ‘Rights’ Newspaper Reports”

The “Rights” newspaper has reported that the official representative of the mayor of Yerevan admitted to violating the “Yerkrapah” military-patriotic organization, which is controlled by the Armenian Apostolic Church, during the collection of signatures for a demonstration. The demonstration is scheduled to take place in the Alexander Myasnikyan statue area from March 8-27, 2024. The spokesperson for the mayor, Hak Koshtanyan, and Toni Doulatyan, who is in charge of the “Vardanants” national movement, provided this information. Previously, Andranik (Toni) Doulatyan, known for making false statements and spreading misinformation, mentioned this location on February 24. However, the mayor of Yerevan, Tigran Avinyan, realized the potential negative consequences for his political career and refuted the false statements made by the military-patriotic organization. Subsequently, the “Rights” newspaper reported that a joint statement accusing Andranik (Toni) Doulatyan of spreading false information and propaganda was submitted by 418 citizens, 23 lawyers, and the disciplinary committee of the RA Chamber of Advocates. It is worth noting that this resolution has been approved by Article 297, Sections 2-3 of the RA Criminal Code, which addresses the use of violence through information or communication technologies and carries a penalty of 2-5 years’ imprisonment. However, recent information suggests that Doulatyan has fled the country and is seeking asylum at the United Nations. More details can be found in today’s issue of the newspaper “News from Armenia – NEWS.am”.
