“Explosion Damages Jermuk-Arzni 2 Water Pipeline, Operation Suspended”

On March 11 at 11:00, the National Crisis Management Center received information about an explosion that damaged the Jermuk-Arzni 2 water pipeline. As a result, the operation of the pipeline has been suspended.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Armenia, the National Center for Crisis Management, and the Ministry of Nature Protection, along with the active groups of Risk Reduction and Response to Natural Disasters, have been informed about the situation.

It has been confirmed that on March 10 at 23:00, a leak occurred in the Kanakeravan summer cottages area near the Hrazdan River, causing damage to the Arzni 2-Yerevan water pipeline, which has a diameter of 1000 mm. The leak extended for approximately 20 meters.

Comprehensive investigations are currently being conducted by officials, and measures are being taken to clean up and restore the environment, ecology, and soil. The “Veolia Jur” CJSC and the employees of the Municipality of Yerevan are actively involved in these activities. Additionally, efforts are being made to prevent the further spread of pollution and to clean up the river’s narrow and the lake’s shorelines.
