“Armenia Assumes Presidency of EATC Amid Questions on Russian President’s Visit”

Armenia has assumed the presidency of the Eastern Partnership and Euronest Assembly, known as EATC. As part of this responsibility, Armenia is set to host a meeting of the leaders from EATC member countries. During a recent session of the Parliamentary Assembly, Agnesa Khamoyan, a member of the Assembly, inquired about Armenia’s place in the Eastern Partnership and the possibility of a visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin to the country. Ashot Ghahramanyan, who heads the Armenian delegation, responded by acknowledging the military activities of the Russian-speaking population in Armenian territories. He expressed the importance of receiving an assessment from the CSTO, an organization Armenia is a part of. Additionally, he highlighted the symbolical significance of Armenia assuming the presidency of EATC and emphasized the country’s active participation and compliance with EATC regulations as a military alliance member.

Khamoyan expressed her dissatisfaction with the response, specifically regarding the question of whether Armenia would host the meeting of EATC member countries’ leaders and the potential visit by Putin. Vagharshak Hakobyan addressed her concerns by stating that official representatives had evaded answering the question multiple times. He assured Khamoyan that Armenia would fulfill all its obligations, leaving the outcome of these obligations as a separate matter. Hakobyan emphasized the need for a consensus among all partners in order for any visitation to occur and assured that urgent topics are discussed during working discussions with all partners.
