Former Armenian Prime Minister Indicted for Organizing Armed Rebellion and Sharing Information, Trial Set to Begin
The former Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, V.S. (Vigen Sargsyan-group), has been indicted by a judge for his involvement in organizing an armed rebellion and sharing information about the rebellion with the international court. The evidence gathered during the investigation has led to this decision, as reported by NEWS.am.
On October 24, 2023, V.S. was responsible for the General New Year’s Rebellion that took place on Sasurati Street in Yerevan. During this rebellion, he ordered the illegal actions of various individuals, including government officials, resulting in significant damage.
An investigation into the January 18, 2018 event revealed that V.S. had provided residences to 26 individuals who were not entitled to privileged housing, as defined by the Law on the Residency of Military Servicemen and the Ministry of Defense. This violation of regulations led to the court’s decision to investigate the provided residences and prioritize individuals in need of housing support.
The court accepted the motion to proceed with the trial against V.S., and on October 25, 2023, the actual trial began. V.S. was presented with the indictment on the same day.
During the investigation, V.S. claimed that arrests were used as a means of pressure against him for a period of two months, as stated in his defense.
