“Groundbreaking Exhibition of Hayk Melikyan’s ‘1900+’ Project Celebrates 20th and 21st Century Armenian Music at Komitas Cultural Center”

The Komitas Cultural Center, supported by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, has recently inaugurated an exhibition dedicated to the Armenian music of the 20th and 21st centuries. The exhibition showcases the “1900+” project of Hayk Melikyan, an award-winning artist and national artist of Armenia. The opening ceremony was attended by various officials from different countries, including the Director of Komitas, Zhanna Andreasyan, and Ambassador Andrea Wiktorin from the European Union Delegation to Armenia. During the ceremony, Hayk Melikyan was honored with a gold medal for his significant contributions to Armenian music and contemporary classical music in the 20th century.

In her congratulatory speech, Zhanna Andreasyan emphasized the importance of this project in exploring the art of the 20th century and contemporary compositional art, as well as appreciating the diverse cultures of different countries. She praised the project for enriching compositional art in the present and stressed the need to create valuable works in the current artistic landscape. Hayk Melikyan expressed his gratitude for the recognition and stated that his concerts will further promote contemporary music.

The concert that followed the ceremony featured performances by renowned composers such as Komitas, Khachaturian, Babajanyan, Mirzoyan, Sarayevan, as well as a special creative work by Ellen Yolchyan specifically dedicated to Hayk Melikyan’s unique project. Notably, the primary objective of the “1900+” project is to showcase avant-garde compositions of the 20th century and contemporary classical music from various countries, which are being performed for the first time in Armenia.
