“Armenian Judge Wins Defamation Lawsuit Against Russian-Armenian Businessman”

The newspaper “Zhoghovurd” reports that on February 28, Armenian judge Gohar Kostanyan, a former judge of the Constitutional Court and current judge of the European Court of Human Rights, filed a lawsuit against Russian-Armenian businessman Rustam Bakoyan in Poland. The court has ruled that Bakoyan must publicly apologize in the media for falsely accusing Kostanyan and pay her a compensation of 1 million drams.

Kostanyan submitted the lawsuit on April 9 of the previous year, alleging that she had been invited to the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia to discuss human rights protection and constitutional rights. During the session, members of the Parliamentary Assembly, as well as representatives of the National Assembly’s factions, insulted and made false accusations against Kostanyan. Bakoyan, a member of the PACE’s “Political Agreement” group, also insulted her and made defamatory statements. The court also ordered Bakoyan to pay Kostanyan 1 million drams as compensation for non-material damage caused by the insults.

It is worth mentioning that Bakoyan was not the only one who insulted Kostanyan that day. Officials from the “Citizenship Agreement” group of the Civil Contract also used offensive language and made offensive statements.
