“Armenian Faction Leader and Iranian Deputy Prime Minister Discuss Red Sea Situation, Call for Restraint and Implementation of International Law”

The leader of the “My Step” faction, Nikol Pashinyan, and the Minister of External Affairs of Iran, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, recently had a phone conversation to discuss the situation in the Red Sea. According to spokesperson Stepan Dzhuharik from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they specifically discussed the Middle East situation, with a focus on the Red Sea. Pashinyan reiterated his call for all parties involved to avoid any provocative actions and instead adhere to the 1982 Convention on the Law of the Sea.

In addition to the Red Sea, Pashinyan and Abdollahian also touched upon the situation in the Caspian Sea. This shows their commitment to covering various important maritime areas of concern.

On January 10, the OSCE received a proposal for an international conference aimed at addressing the security of navigation in the Red Sea and preventing potential threats. So far, 11 countries have expressed their willingness to participate, while Russia, Turkey, China, and Mozambique have remained neutral. Notably, Russia proposed several amendments to the American draft, but all were rejected. This has raised concerns from both the US and the UK, highlighting the potential for further tension in the region.
