During a press conference held on January 15 in Yerevan, Internal Affairs Minister Arpine Hovhannisyan addressed the recent criminal case involving Artur Sargsyan, also known as “Sasna Tsrer”. She clarified her position and explained that her intervention in the case had been based on the professional advice of the legal council. Hovhannisyan also stated that the changes made in the criminal process occurred after her decision, noting that the involvement of experts in the investigation is not regulated by law. While irregularities in the case have been rectified in the primary court, the Court of Appeal has initiated proceedings to ensure a fair trial. Interestingly, Hovhannisyan is the daughter of Ashot Hovhannisyan, a former Minister of Defense who served under the leadership of Serzh Sargsyan. This familial connection was emphasized during the press conference, where she was introduced as “Ashot Sargsyan’s daughter”. In 2014, the newspaper “Zhoghovurd” reported on the allegedly unreasonable high-price sale of technical equipment provided to the security service of the Ministry of Defense during her father’s tenure.
