“Armenian Government Approves Regulation to Boost Film Industry and International Collaboration”

The Government of the Republic of Armenia has approved a new regulation to regulate the domestic film industry. This move aims to ensure the proper status and functioning of film production and drive its activities. The regulation is in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Armenia on “Cinematography,” which seeks to facilitate international projects, attract foreign investments, and improve the organization of international film festivals. The implementation of the “European Convention on Cinematographic Co-Production” is also being carried out in the field of Armenian cinematography, aligning with European requirements.

In order to participate in co-productions and international film festivals, each party to the convention must obtain an official status of co-production in their respective country. However, this status is not yet in effect in the Republic of Armenia. Nevertheless, the Law of the Republic of Armenia on “Cinematography” has included provisions for co-production, with a focus on changing the landscape of the domestic film industry. This also allows for the establishment of national production conditions for projects receiving support for national films.

The status of co-production is determined based on the volume of national production, with the main producing country fully implementing this status. Other countries with smaller shares of financing follow suit. The National Center, which is currently being formed, plays a crucial role in providing and revoking the status of co-production. International indicators will be determined to ensure the growth of national film competition, the effective functioning of public administration, and the efficient cooperation of national film production on the international stage.

This new regulation is significant in shaping the future of the Armenian film industry. It not only paves the way for collaboration with international projects and the participation in film festivals but also promotes the growth and development of domestic film production. With the formation of the National Center, the proper implementation and enforcement of the status of co-production can be ensured, further strengthening the industry’s position on a global scale.
