“EU Launches Investigation into X Social Network’s Violation of Digital Services Act, Demanding Accountability and Transparency”

The European Union has initiated an official investigation into X social network for violating the Digital Services Act (DSA) in its handling of user data. The DSA, which came into effect in November, mandates that major online platforms and search engines must do more to address the growing issue of misinformation and the associated risks to public safety and security.

The investigation will primarily focus on evaluating the extent to which disinformation is being disseminated within the EU, the manipulation of information flows, and the measures implemented by X to safeguard its platform against misinformation.

X, a conglomerate of technology companies owned by Elon Musk, has been subjected to stringent regulations under the DSA, primarily aimed at enhancing accountability and transparency in their operations.

In October, European Commissioner Thierry Breton held discussions with X, TikTok, and Meta to express concerns about their insufficient efforts in combating disinformation dissemination and providing information regarding its distribution in Israel.
