Armenia and Azerbaijan Approve Protocols on Border Delimitation and Demarcation: A Step Towards Peace and Progress

The Armenian government, on December 14, approved the protocols on the delimitation and demarcation of the state border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the establishment of a state commission on delimitation and demarcation. The protocols were approved during a meeting between the delegations of the two countries, along with representatives of working groups and experts.

Ara Mkrtchyan, Armenia’s representative to the negotiations, presented the draft and emphasized that it allows the delegations from both countries to actively participate in future meetings and practical work related to delimitation and demarcation. The time, date, and venue of these meetings will be determined by the heads of delegations in consultation with the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group.

Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan added that the document also regulates the process of holding meetings and expressed the need to develop another methodology to present a more comprehensive version. This will provide a clearer understanding of the delimitation process and the legal significance of the document’s security guarantees.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan highlighted the importance of institutionalizing the delimitation process and stressed the need for transparency by publishing the document. He also emphasized the importance of continuing active work in this direction and striving for progress.

This meeting was the fifth between the delegations of Armenia and Azerbaijan regarding the delimitation and demarcation of the state border between the two countries.
