“Turkey’s President Erdogan Proposes United States Cooperation on F-16s at NATO Summit: Will Allies Step Up?”

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed optimism about potential cooperation with the United States concerning the acquisition of F-16 fighters for his country. Responding to a question from the Swedish media at the NATO Summit in Brussels, Erdogan emphasized the need for approval from his council before taking any steps. He highlighted the importance of collaboration and urged the parties involved to address the matter simultaneously. Turkey had initially requested 40 F-16 Block 70 fighters and 80 Block 70 technology packages from the US. The negotiations have reached a technical completion, triggering expectations of a positive outcome for Turkey’s bid. Sweden’s arms embargo currently encompasses Hungary and Turkey, but Turkey is anticipated to seek NATO’s support in implementing a favorable decision.
