“Renovations at Surb Gevorg Armenian Church Spark Concerns for Icon Protection: Security Committee Head Raises Alarm”

I visited the Surb Gevorg Armenian Church, currently undergoing renovations and without any nearby visitors. I sought to understand the organizers of this process and the responsible parties for protecting the icons within the church. During a discussion on December 8 at the National Assembly, Sona Ghazaryan, the head of the “Security Treaty” committee, addressed this issue in the latest edition of the weekly magazine “Regarding Security.”

Ghazaryan highlighted the problem of increasing thefts at the Ereboyan hostel, expressing concern that no serious actions have been taken to address this issue. Comparing it to Atenk, where the Acropolis contains 2,000 icons per hour, Ghazaryan emphasized that Ereboyan holds similar potential, expressing regret that the matter has been neglected.

At the close of the meeting, Vahan Kerobyan, the military representative of the QPA, offered a valuable recommendation to Vahram Harutyunyan, the Minister of Economy. Kerobyan urged against making discriminatory divisions based on gender in the labor market, proposing that talented individuals be sought outside of fields such as theft and arenas where sexism is prevalent.
