“Frontex Strengthens Surveillance Efforts as Finland Closes Border due to Migrant Crisis”

The European border agency Frontex has deployed its 55 staff members to monitor the Finnish-Russian border. This action was taken after Finland made the decision to temporarily close all border crossings due to the influx of migrants. Frontex representative, Peter Svitalsky, stated that “55 experts from the European Union Agency for the Protection of the EU’s External Borders are currently stationed in Finland, with the majority of them being border guards responsible for border surveillance.” It is important to note that Frontex is prepared to adjust their deployment criteria based on the changing situation. Svitalsky emphasized that they are willing to stay longer or leave sooner depending on the need. The organization is aware that the migration signal is a tool used by the Kremlin, which suggests that it will likely continue in the future.
