USAID Donates 20,000 Tons of Metal for Infrastructure Reconstruction in Ukraine

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) is set to receive 20 thousand tons of metal to aid in the reconstruction and improvement of infrastructure in Ukraine. This allocation of metal will specifically be used for the construction of protective structures in energy facilities, as announced by Ukraine’s Minister of Energy. The initiative falls under the Energy Security program, which is financed by the US government through USAID. The program aims to enhance the protective measures of energy objects by implementing second-level protective facilities, providing defense against unidentified flying objects, according to a statement on the ministry’s Facebook page.

The Energy Security program plans to cover a total of 22 facilities and 63 auto-transformer substations across 14 regions of the country with second-level protection. The metal required for this project will be supplied by a Ukrainian producer, with the first batch of metal already received and used for its intended purposes. Valeria Ivannova, the deputy head of operations, stated that nearly 5 thousand tons of metal has been received to date and is currently being utilized in the western, central, and southern regions for the construction of anti-terrorism facilities.

Construction projects are being carried out by the company “Ukrenergo,” which utilizes the main construction materials data in the project. The collaboration between USAID, the Ministry of Energy, and the local producer aims to fortify Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and improve the overall security of energy facilities in the country.
