“Armenian Government Approves New System for Disability Pension Applications, Streamlining the Process and Eliminating the Need for Additional Documents”

The government has approved a new system for applying for a pension for disabled individuals, according to a decree issued today. This system allows individuals with acknowledged disabilities and work experience in the social security system to apply online for various pension-related services, such as determining their pension type, re-evaluating their pension, changing the type of pension, and making contributions. Until June 1, 2024, no additional documents are required when submitting an application.

For individuals who are not acknowledged as disabled in the social security system, there is a deadline for applying for a disability pension, which will be effective from December 11, 2023. However, the pension will be acknowledged from October 1 or later. For instance, if someone turns 63 years old in September, they can apply for a disability pension starting from December 11 of the same year, and their pension will be acknowledged from October 1 of that year.

The Minister also announced that disability certificates will be valid until December 31, 2028, under the new regulations. However, they will not be renewed after that date.

In response to the new system, Deputy Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that individuals who currently receive a pension in the country will continue to receive their payments without interruption. He mentioned that they had not received pensions for October and November, but with this decision, they will receive their pensions for those months as well.

This update from Armenia brings significant changes to the pension application process for disabled individuals, simplifying the procedure and providing more online options. It also clarifies the timelines for applying and acknowledging disability pensions. The government’s decision to extend the validity of disability certificates until 2028 ensures a more streamlined process for individuals with disabilities. Finally, the assurance given by the Deputy Prime Minister regarding uninterrupted pension payments offers relief and support to those currently receiving pensions in the country.
