Ashnak Municipal Authorities Crack Down on Waste Offenses: Residents Caught With Illegal Trash and Drugs

The Ashnak Municipal Authorities in Armenia have taken an initiative to enhance waste management and recycling by distributing information sheets. On November 21, they visited a 23-year-old resident in the Khorenatsi neighborhood of Ashnak to educate her on proper waste management. During the visit, it was discovered that she had accumulated over 15 kilograms of paper waste, along with cardboard boxes and crumpled paper sheets.

The authorities then handed over the young woman and the collected documents to the Ararat Regional Police Department for further investigation. A preliminary investigation was initiated focusing on potential environmental criminal offenses. Through this investigation, it was discovered that another individual had provided her with the waste. This 35-year-old man was also subjected to inspection and included in the preliminary investigation.

Another incident occurred on the morning of November 26, when the Ashnak Municipal Authorities initiated an operative investigation. A resident of Tigran the Great Street in Ashnak was inspected, and subsequently, their residence in the Aygek village of the Ararat region was also searched. During the inspection, a 42-year-old man was found to be in possession of various substances, including 60 grams of powder and several paper packages containing different substances.

Based on the preliminary investigation, the 42-year-old man is facing administrative charges. He was inspected and transferred to a facility for detained individuals. The progress of the investigation in both cases is currently being clarified.

This significant step taken by the Ashnak Municipal Authorities highlights their commitment to waste management and recycling. Through education and enforcement measures, they aim to ensure a cleaner and more sustainable environment in the region.
