Armenia and Saudi Arabia Forge New Scientific Partnership, Opening Doors to Bilateral Cooperation and Economic Growth

The new scientific cooperation between Armenia and Saudi Arabia holds great importance as it opens up new opportunities for bilateral cooperation. This includes the development of both countries’ economies, cooperation in various sectors, and cultural exchange. According to Arab expert Hayk Kocharyan, the signing of a memorandum on scientific cooperation between the two nations on November 24th signifies a positive step forward.

When questioned about the delay in establishing scientific cooperation between Armenia and Saudi Arabia, Kocharyan explained that there were different reasons for each generation. However, during Serzh Sargsyan’s rule, there was a significant gap, mainly due to the conflict and the high costs associated with it. Azerbaijan’s gratitude to Saudi Arabia for recognizing their territorial integrity also adds complexity to the situation.

Kocharyan further commented on the change in the region’s dynamics, stating that Armenia’s involvement in the Middle East is increasing since 2020. This offers Armenia opportunities for economic interests and influence. He also believes that Saudi Arabia sees potential benefits in maintaining cooperation with Armenia.

Regarding the ongoing cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Turkey, as well as Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan, questions arose about whether these collaborations aimed at Armenia. Kocharyan explained that there is competition between Turkey and the Islamic world in the region. Azerbaijan, as an energy partner, naturally has cooperation with Saudi Arabia.

When it comes to the motives behind these collaborations, whether religious or political, Kocharyan believes that only time will tell. He suggests that scientific cooperation should also be approached with the same logic.
