“Arab Emirates Collaborate with Armenia’s Ministry of Nature Protection in Climate Change Actions and Oil and Gas Transactions, Reveals BBC Report”

The Arab Emirates has shown interest in involving the Ministry of Nature Protection (MNP) of Armenia in climate change negotiations and oil and gas transactions, according to a report by the BBC. However, the MNP team did not attend the COP28 meetings on practical actions, citing the need for more participatory meetings. Their focus, they claimed, was on climate change-related activities for sustainable development. Documents obtained by the BBC from the UAE’s Climate Policy Center revealed proposed topics for discussion, including evaluating oil and gas transactions related to climate change mitigation in several countries.

In these documents, it was proposed that the UAE’s national oil company, Adnoc, is ready to assess the potential for international cooperation in natural gas in Mozambique, Canada, and Australia. They also extended an offer to the Colombian Prime Minister to support the enhancement of hydrocarbon reserves in Colombia. Furthermore, the UAE expressed interest in partnering with its state-owned energy company, Masdar, to procure energy and establish cooperation agreements with 20 countries before the COP28 meetings, including the UK, US, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Brazil, China, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Kenya.

COP28 serves as the final phase of the UNFCCC’s global climate negotiations. This year’s event took place in Dubai and was attended by 167 world leaders, including the Pope of Rome and King Charles III.
