Armenia’s Armed Forces are currently undergoing significant changes, focusing on improving the capabilities of the armed forces and studying international experiences. In a live interview on November 24, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed the question of why the country does not adopt the models of advanced countries.

Pashinyan explained that they have introduced a 24-day military draft mechanism to provide conscripts with specialized training and opportunities for a military career path. Efforts are being made to improve the salaries of soldiers through professionalization, ensuring that they are adequately compensated for their responsibilities. Rather than superficially increasing salaries, the government wants to ensure that soldiers entrusted with the country’s security are capable of shouldering this responsibility. Special status is given to soldiers based on their moral, physical, and intellectual capabilities.

In response to inquiries about exempting those who risk the country’s security and stability from agreements that regulate national security and territorial integrity, Pashinyan stated that the government must consider the state’s capabilities. He assured that if there is a crisis where certain agreements do not ensure the security of Armenia, the government will not blindly adhere to these agreements.

Pashinyan emphasized the need to strengthen the government’s role in the state system. He expressed gratitude to international partners, non-governmental organizations, and the public for their support in managing the challenges faced by those displaced from Lerna Karabakh. Despite receiving over 100,000 people without identity papers or passports, the government has worked towards finding appropriate accommodations. The quality and efficiency of governance have been improved through the heroic deeds of the soldiers and the political changes that have occurred in Armenia.
