Armenian Government Cracks Down on Smuggling: Chinese-Made Bus and “Black” Cash Register Uncovered

The government of the Republic of Armenia is continuing its fight against the smuggling of state-owned tobacco products, according to the Committee of Taxation. NEWS.am has reported that the customs department of Syunik Marz and the state tobacco warehouse of Meghri, under the northern customs office, have recently discovered a Chinese-made bus being used by members of the Armenian-Iranian Dashterakan group for smuggling operations. During the inspection, a “black” cash register containing canisters of methaphetamin round pellets was found. It is believed that this bus was meant to transport stolen cash from China to a city in the Chinese Democratic Republic. As a result of these smuggling operations, over 10 kg of methaphetamin pellets were seized, with an estimated value of over 800 million AMD. These actions have violated the statutory legislations of the Republic of Armenia, specifically point 393 and 399 part-1, which demand strict adherence to the fight against smuggling of state-owned tobacco products.
