President of Iraq Pays Tribute to Armenian Genocide Victims During Official Visit to Armenia

The President of the Republic of Iraq, Abdul Latif Jumail Rashid, visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial on November 22 during his official visit to the Republic of Armenia, according to NEWS.am. During his visit, President Rashid laid a wreath at the memorial to pay tribute to the victims of the Armenian Genocide. As a sign of respect, flowers were also placed near the eternal flame at the memorial. Additionally, the President visited the Genocide Museum and had the opportunity to familiarize himself with the historical displays. Later, he planted a memorial tree in commemoration of the Armenian Genocide.

In his remarks, President Rashid acknowledged the Armenian Genocide as the first genocide of our new era, which led to the establishment of the term “genocide” in 1944. He emphasized that it was a defensive measure to protect the Armenian people from further massacres and wars. The President condemned any potential repetition of genocides and underscored the importance of safeguarding human rights. He concluded by extending eternal peace to the souls of the victims and expressing his wishes for progress in Armenia.

During the visit, the RA Ambassador to Iraq, Edita Gzoyan, presented President Rashid with a book in Arabic about the Armenian Genocide, expressing gratitude for his visit.

This visit serves as an important gesture of solidarity and recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the President of Iraq. It highlights the significance of remembering and honoring the victims of this tragic event in history. Such acts of remembrance and understanding contribute to the global efforts to prevent such atrocities from recurring and emphasize the importance of human rights protection.
