“EU Members Agree on 189.3 Billion Euro Budget Contribution for Multiannual Financial Framework, Focusing on Climate Change and Military Readiness”

Members of the European Union (EU) have agreed to contribute 189.3 billion euros to the EU budget for the upcoming Multiannual Financial Framework. This framework outlines the allocation of funds for various sectors of the economy. The decision was reached at the European Council summit in Strasbourg and was announced on the European Parliament’s website.

This amount corresponds to the initial proposals of the European Parliament. The Vice-President of the European Parliament noted that these proposals include an increase of 666 million euros during the negotiations on November 11 with participating countries. The largest increase will be in the field of humanitarian aid, with 250 million euros allocated. This will be followed by 150 million euros for the “Global Europe” internal cooperation and development instrument. The smallest increase, with an expenditure of 10 million euros, will be allocated to “military operations.”

An article states, “The European Parliament’s rapporteurs are expressing concern that the negotiations on the Multiannual Financial Framework for the period until the end of the mandate of the European Parliament, in order to achieve an agreement, will take until 2024. This will effectively delay the implementation of planned changes in the EU budget, which will be offered by the European Parliament.”

The budget increase is aimed at supporting the European Union’s long-term priorities. This includes supporting Ukraine’s EU integration process, tackling climate change and enhancing capabilities, as well as increasing the EU’s military readiness and strengthening its structures by 2024, such as migration and external security.
