“Mayor of Yerevan Central District Interrogated by Anti-Corruption Committee: Significant Developments Unfold”

The mayor of the center, Samvel Ghukasyan, has appeared before the anti-corruption committee for questioning. There have been significant developments in this case. Ghukasyan was notified by the committee to appear for questioning but did not show up on the specified day. Members of the NSS staff then went to the mayor’s office and questioned him there.

We tried to obtain clarifications from the anti-corruption committee, but they did not respond, citing the political situation in the country. Based on information from the National Security Service, Ghukasyan is accused of using his official position to receive bribes amounting to over 1.7 billion AMD. The bribes were received in exchange for non-interference in illegal construction and unauthorized gasification activities.

Additionally, Tigran Martirosyan, in agreement with Arman H., received 700,000 AMD in bribes for non-interference in illegal gasification activities. Both officials’ salaries and their last payment have been frozen. Martirosyan and another employee have been arrested as part of the investigation. We will continue to monitor the progress of this case.
