“Foreign Tourists Boost Armenian Economy with $1,200 Spent per Visit, Predicted Inflow of 100 Billion Drams by 2023”

Foreign tourists visiting Armenia spend an average of $1,200, according to the Minister of Economy, Vahan Kerobyan. He shared this information during a meeting of the National Assembly’s standing committee for territorial administration and local self-government while discussing the “Tourism” bill package. Although he didn’t mention the average length of their stay, Kerobyan noted that the budget receives approximately $110 per person from this amount, which equals 44,000 drams at the current exchange rate. Consequently, it is expected that by 2023, around 100 billion drams will be generated through tourism.

Kerobyan expressed optimism about the future of tourism in Armenia, projecting an anticipated 2.5 million foreign tourists by 2026. In fact, he stated that the country is already on track to achieve this target by 2023. These figures were obtained from surveys conducted among tourists, providing valuable insights into the economic impact and growth potential of the tourism industry in Armenia.

The positive outlook for tourism in Armenia is a promising development for the country’s economy as it signifies increased revenue and job opportunities. With the projected growth in tourism, the inflow of foreign currency will contribute significantly to the national budget. Moreover, the presence of more tourists can lead to the expansion of supporting industries such as hospitality, transportation, and entertainment, creating a multiplier effect that stimulates further economic growth.

Enhancing the country’s appeal to foreign tourists should be a key priority for Armenia. This can be achieved through strategic marketing campaigns, showcasing the country’s unique cultural heritage, natural beauty, and diverse attractions. Creating memorable experiences for visitors and ensuring their safety and convenience will also contribute to building a positive reputation for Armenia as a desirable tourist destination.
