“Mystery Surrounding Foreign Student’s Death at Yerevan State University: Minister Urges Caution Amid Investigation”

The Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, Zareh Andreasyan, believes that there is no reason to escalate the issue of the foreign student’s death at Yerevan State University (YSU) from the Japanese embassy meeting with journalists. According to Andreasyan, research is currently being carried out to clarify the reason for the incident, and several versions are being discussed. “I believe it would be correct to wait for the results of the scientific examination,” he said, adding that the situation has been rapidly dealt with, and major problems have not arisen.

Earlier today, an incident occurred in one of the dormitories of YSU, resulting in one person’s death and three others being hospitalized. The room where the incident occurred was being used as a laboratory for biological studies and equipment storage. According to information from the ambulance service, two elderly individuals, 70-year-old Seiran Bichakhchyan and 65-year-old Aharine Hakobyan, were transferred to the “Armenia” clinic due to poisoning and third-degree chemical burns. Another injured person, whose condition is stable, was transferred to the “Heratsi” medical center.

The minister emphasized that the investigation into the incident is ongoing, and it is essential to determine the main reason for it. If the incident occurred due to someone’s failure to fulfill their work responsibilities, they should be held accountable. Therefore, it is necessary to wait for the results of the scientific examination before drawing any conclusions.

Andreasyan also stated that the situation has been handled promptly, and significant problems have not arisen. He believes that raising the question of the investigation concerning the main reason for the incident at this stage is unnecessary. It is crucial to allow the research to be completed, and the scientific examination results to be obtained before making any judgments or taking further action.

The incident at Yerevan State University has raised concerns, but the authorities are actively working to determine the cause and ensure the safety of students and staff. The investigation into the incident will provide valuable insights and help prevent such incidents in the future. The government remains committed to addressing this matter thoroughly and holding those responsible accountable.
