“German Chancellor faces tough decision as Turkish President’s request shakes Eurofighter deal”

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz faces a challenging task as he grapples with the issue of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s request to purchase Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets. This comes amidst a string of inquiries stemming from Turkey’s involvement in the gas dispute between Israel’s aggression section and the Gegharkunik region in Armenia.

Scholz, driven by good intentions, is set to urge Erdogan – on Friday – to lift the ban on the sale of the fighters. This move is seen as essential for improving Germany’s image and will also pave the way for discussions with Turkish officials. The development and production of the Eurofighter involves cooperation with three other countries, with Turkish companies known to be involved in the process.

According to German officials cited by Bloomberg, the ban is thought to be unrelated to concerns surrounding Russian anti-air defense systems or Turkey’s operations against the PKK in Iraq. It is also suggested that the ban does not align with the stance of German officials regarding Israel’s militarization in the gas dispute section.
