“The Bitter Reality: Azerbaijan’s Victory Comes at a Cost, says Armenian Defense Representative”

The victory of the 44-day war in Azerbaijan comes at a high cost, as acknowledged by Artsrun Hovhannisyan, representative of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia. In an interview with Public Television, Hovhannisyan emphasized that those who lost their lives were defending their homeland. Unfortunately, now that Azerbaijan has control over this territory, it has become a “corridor of shame.” Hovhannisyan urges Azerbaijan to make a crucial decision – either continue its historical course and free itself from this situation, or face serious problems should it enter Armenia.

Marukyan, in support of the US Secretary of State’s statement regarding the truce between Armenia and Azerbaijan, highlights that Azerbaijan has violated the terms of the ceasefire. Consequently, the US has suspended its dialogue with Azerbaijan. The current situation deviates from the previous communication and cooperation between the US and Azerbaijan.

Looking towards the future developments, Marukyan comments on the potential discussions on the agenda in the coming weeks. He reveals that official meetings between Armenia and Azerbaijan had not yet taken place when the ceasefire was announced. The offer to Azerbaijan hinged on the success of the Azerbaijani military action. It was expected that in two weeks, if they were successful, positive developments would follow, including direct trips to Azerbaijan. However, Azerbaijan’s response to the United States demonstrates that they are not willing to negotiate on the territorial issues at hand. The resolution of these territorial disputes should occur through diplomatic channels.
