“Threats and Financial Acquisitions: The Controversial Life of David Danielyan, Representative of the “Civil Contract” Faction”

“Zhoghovurd” daily reported that David Danielyan, a representative of the “Civil Contract” faction, has been facing serious threats due to his activism, particularly for revealing a number of scandals related to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict as the head of the CSTO Member State’s Rapporteur Group.

In response to the threats, Danielyan has acquired two apartments in the Kanaker-Zeytun administrative district of Yerevan. Additionally, he declared ownership of a land plot in the Nor Nork community of Kotayk province in both 2015 and 2021. In 2021, Danielyan also purchased a 2012 Kia car.

Danielyan’s cash assets amount to 8 million drams, with an annual income of 15 million 197 thousand drams. From his income, 7 million 766 thousand drams were received as salary from the National Assembly of Armenia. He also received 18 thousand euros as salary from Artak Khachatryan, although the nature of Khachatryan’s work remains unclear, leading to questions regarding transparency.

Furthermore, it is noteworthy that Danielyan did not participate in the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly’s discussion on the situation in Rome. He has also been accused of appointing his relatives to positions within his working organization, such as his brother Hayk Danielyan as the head of his office. Arman Hovhannisyan, the chairman of the National Assembly’s staff, is another relative appointed by Danielyan.

Arman Hovhannisyan’s partner, Aram Harutyunyan, holds the position of the head of the “Practical Archivist-Libraries and Historical Territory Protection Service” under the Ministry of Culture. The contract signed between David Danielyan’s wife, Ani Antonyan, and Aram Harutyunyan’s “Practical Archivist” Ltd. amounts to 900 thousand drams. Ani Antonyan herself works as an expert for the state-funded “Armenian National Cinema” in the public finance department, receiving a salary of 1 million 800 thousand drams. Her bank account balance is 1 million 500 thousand drams, with an additional cash award of 10 thousand dollars.

These revelations raise concerns about the transformation of trusted institutions and the credibility of those involved, as Danielyan’s critics accuse him of prioritizing employing his relatives over meritocracy.
