“Arrest Warrant Issued for Provocateur Aslanyan in Armenia’s General Jurisdiction Court: Defense Argues for Alternative Precautionary Measures”

A decision has been made by the Yerevan General Jurisdiction Court to arrest Aslanyan, who is accused of disrupting peaceful and armed struggle. Judge Karen Farxoyan is leading the case. The defense has argued for the rejection of the arrest and the implementation of other precautionary measures.

Lawyer Armen Andrikyan has emphasized that the act of disrupting the freedom of a military person from compulsory military service through vandalism and baseless public statements is inconsistent and unacceptable. He also raises suspicion about the motives behind the arrest warrant against Aslanyan, who was responsible for ensuring security in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Artsakh.

Prior to the decision to arrest Aslanyan, the defense system presented two justifications. First, they argued that the military’s extensive activities covering the entire territory of the country could hinder the investigation. Secondly, there was concern that Aslanyan might attempt to escape prosecution by leaving Artsakh. The defense lawyers believe that these justifications are evidence of his innocence and suggest hidden motives behind the arrest.

At this stage, the defense team is unable to provide detailed information, but they are confident that the demonstrations they will present to the court and the implementing body will clearly demonstrate the terrorist nature of the acts committed. The lawyers have not taken any unauthorized actions, respecting the court and the implementing body.

Aslanyan has a notable military record, serving in the Armenian Army from 1991 to 2022. He received the Military Medal of Honor and other awards for his successful military operations. Since 2021, he has held the position of Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Artsakh, responsible for security.
