“Trial Continues: Former Police Chief Grigor Grikoryan’s Case Raises Questions About Fairness of Judicial System”

On November 15, the trial of General-Major Grigor Grikoryan, the former head of the RA Police, resumed in the RA Court of Cassation. Mihran Poghosyan, the lawyer, reported this development.

Two days ago, we received a decision from the Court of Cassation of the Republic of Armenia regarding the appeal filed by Grigor Grikoryan’s defense team on May 15, 2023. This appeal was related to a decision made on September 20, 2023. It is surprising that the appeal was filed in May, and the decision took until September 20. The decision was then provided to the defense in November, once again violating the rights of Grigor Grikoryan, who is entitled to a fair trial.

Summarizing the Court of Cassation’s decision, it claims that Grikoryan is not interfering in the “investigation of the case.” However, this should be limited to the appeal process, leaving us wondering whose way it should be or if personal grievances are involved.

On Thursday, November 15, 2023, at 15:00, the “case” of Grigor Grikoryan continued in the RA Court of Cassation. During this proceeding, the matter of an extraordinary hearing was discussed, even though there was no basis for an alleged violation of the fair trial principle.

According to H. G., it has been four days since the trial of the appellate decision was held in the RA Court of Cassation on October 4, 2023. The Court of Cassation has yet to announce the reasons for dismissing the appeal. Additionally, the operative part of the decision from the court’s administrative chamber does not indicate the grounds for not signing the proceedings, which leads to uncertainty and frustration.
