“The Troubling Connection Revealed: Amnesty Raises Concerns About Impartiality in Suspended Case”

The implementation of the suspended case has raised questions about the use of the amnesty measure. In an interview with NEWS.am, Siranush Sahakyan, President of the International and Comparative Law Center, discussed the connection between the amnesty and the actions of the public prosecutor and the administration of justice. Sahakyan expressed concern about the chosen amnesty measure and the involvement of Judge Makyan, who handled the case. Questions about Vigen Sargsyan’s impartiality due to his involvement in the Artsakh War and activities in the CSTO were also raised.

Independent research has shown that the judges selected for the trial have a history of biased rulings in similar cases. Sahakyan argued that this undermines the protection of rights and the prosecution’s case. While there may be different evaluations of the amnesty process, Sahakyan emphasized the importance of society being informed about the motives and interests of the parties involved.

However, for now, there are no sufficient grounds for further complaints, and the published information could have been presented at a later date. The amnesty measure selected by Gevorg Altonian is residential arrest with a bail of 20 million drams.
