“Israel’s ‘Iron Dome’ Missile Defense System to Receive $14.3 Billion Boost from US Congress, Pending Approval from Senate and President Biden”

Israel is set to significantly enhance its missile defense capabilities with an aid package of $14.3 billion approved by the United States Congress, as reported by Bloomberg. However, this allocation still requires the approval of the Senate and the signature of President Biden to be implemented. The financial assistance includes the establishment of 100 new production units, surpassing the existing systems, and the production of 14,000 Tamir missiles. Presently, Israel possesses 10 batteries equipped with three to four launchers each, with 20 Tamir missiles per launcher. Uzi Rubin, a former official of the Israeli Defense Ministry, confirmed that the aid package also covers the replacement of outdated systems with newer ones.

In terms of technical details, the collaboration between Israeli company Rafael, the manufacturer of the renowned “Iron Dome,” and the American RTX Corporation (which comprises Raytheon and Pratt & Whitney subsidiaries) has been highlighted as they will supply the required components for the missiles. Bloomberg also noted that an agreement signed between the United States and Israel in March 2014 allows the production of these essential components in the U.S.

On November 3, members of the United States Congress expressed overwhelming support for the proposed $14.3 billion aid package to Israel, with the exception of the representative from Ukraine. Furthermore, Republican Congressman Chuck Schumer, who holds the position of majority leader in the upper house of Congress for New York State, confirmed that the Senate will not consider the offer of cooperation with Israel. The spokesperson for the Biden administration assured that if the proposed aid package is approved, President Joe Biden will veto the proposal.
