“Armenia’s Drastic Move: Economic Cooperation with Russia Severed, Threatens Security Architecture, Warns Military Expert”

Armenia has decided to terminate its economic cooperation with state-owned buildings in Russia. This move is tied to the country’s efforts to change its security architecture, as stated by military expert Hayk Nahapetyan. One of the factors influencing this decision is the relocation of the 102nd Russian military base from the territory of the Armenian Republic of Artsakh, which no longer exists. Additionally, Armenia is concerned about the defense of Syunik, as well as the strategic significance of the 102nd base and the country’s atomic power plant. By shutting down the atomic power plant, Armenia aims to put symbolic pressure on Azerbaijan’s gas supplies, which could potentially have implications for negotiations between the two nations.

According to Nahapetyan, the 102nd military base is of strategic importance, serving as an outpost for the North Caucasus. The Northern Corridor, which accommodates three republics, is intended to be a security zone for Russia and Iran. The decision taken by Armenia adds pressure on the 102nd military base, highlighting the complex dynamics in the region.
