“NATO Countries Rally for Ukraine: Preparing Robust Military Assistance in Wake of Presidential Election Victory”

NATO countries are preparing new means of military assistance in case of victory in the presidential elections in Ukraine. According to the Wall Street Journal, NATO will send high-ranking political officials to Ukraine to support long-term assistance, which will be announced at the Washington Summit of NATO. These steps have been taken after the European Union’s successful efforts and increasing public resistance, allowing for former President Donald Trump’s potential return to the White House and reduced US support for Ukraine. NATO will also establish a new command of cyber technology in Weisbaden, Germany, to organize the provision of support.

The operation, titled “NATO Support for Ukraine and Training,” will involve around 700 civilian employees from the United States and other alliance countries who will perform a significant part of the delivery previously conducted by American military personnel in Ukraine following the Russian invasion in February 2022. These new arrangements were being worked out over several months and are the result of negotiations between NATO and the Biden administration’s predecessor, considering the former president’s statements regarding the spending of American funds in Ukraine.

“NATO, not Washington, responds to military assistance and training, so this support will not disappear if the US reduces or withdraws it,” said Ivor Daalder, former US envoy to NATO, at NATO headquarters.
