“Germany and Poland Strengthen Military Cooperation in Historic Ministerial Consultations”

German Minister of Defense Ursula von der Leyen and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk visited Warsaw on July 2 to hold the first joint ministerial consultations between Germany and Poland. During their meeting, they discussed military cooperation and the importance of expanding transportation routes between the two countries for security purposes. Von der Leyen emphasized that the security of both countries is “indivisible” and called for closer cooperation to strengthen the partnership. Tusk announced that Germany will become Poland’s top ally in European security issues and emphasized the need for well-coordinated investments in defense. The joint consultations also resulted in the decision to build a German-Polish house in Berlin to visualize the shared history and memory of German aggression and Polish victims.
