Ukrainian Journalist Dmitry Gordon Sentenced to 14 Years in Prison by Moscow Military Court

The military court of Moscow’s Second Western Administrative District has sentenced Ukrainian journalist Dmitry Gordon to 14 years in prison. Gordon is known for his critical reporting on the Russian government. He was found guilty of terrorism, incitement to war, spreading false news, and propaganda related to the Russian military.

Investigators stated that in March 2022, Gordon published videos on his YouTube channel urging the US President to initiate a war with Russia and use nuclear weapons. According to RIA Novosti, he disseminated false information regarding the killings of civilians by Russian troops, destruction of residential buildings, and statements suggesting Russia’s plans to invade Ukraine.

Gordon also made calls for the assassination of Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko. In May 2022, he conducted an interview with blogger Nika Belotskaya, where he made derogatory comments about Russian soldiers, accusing them of using excessive force against civilians in conflict areas and Ukrainian cities.

The journalist was detained in July 2022 and placed in the Basman Court in Moscow for extradition.
