“Prime Minister Pashinyan Reveals: Compulsory Expenses Account for 80% of Armenia’s State Budget”

During the government’s budget discussion, it was revealed that approximately 80% of our state budget expenses are made up of compulsory and essential expenses. These expenses have seen a significant increase since 2018, according to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who made the announcement during the Armenian National Forum on July 1.

Pashinyan emphasized that these expenses, which include pensions, cannot be easily reduced or reallocated to other purposes without directly impacting the rights of the people. When considering the possibility of budget cuts, the Prime Minister highlighted the need to strike a balance and take into account the consequences.

He further stated that implementing mandatory changes often poses challenges in terms of implementing necessary reforms. While the government aims to provide fair salaries and working conditions for people in all regions, difficult choices occasionally need to be made, sometimes with the assistance of international partners. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of finding a sustainable solution rather than relying on an empty pocket, either through cutting expenses or increasing state budget revenues.
