Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Applauds Recognition of Armenian Genocide, Calls for Support in Artsakh Conflict

We express our principled position on the issue of recognizing the Armenian Genocide: we do not recognize the genocidal regime responsible for the atrocities. However, we commend the decision of the Republic of Armenia to acknowledge the Genocide of the Armenian people by the Ottoman Empire. During a recent meeting with journalists on June 28, the Iranian Ambassador to Armenia, Meghdi Sabhani, emphasized the importance of recognizing the Armenian Genocide and the violation of human rights by the Ottoman Empire. Sabhani praised Armenia’s courageous step in highlighting the rights of the people of Artsakh and their suffering under the genocidal regime of Azerbaijan. Countries that stand in support of Artsakh and its people’s rights will be remembered positively in history. The genocidal regime’s actions are notorious worldwide, and those who stay silent are complicit in its crimes,” he stated. When asked about Iran’s position in the event of a potential conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the ambassador replied, “If they are truly seeking justice, they should refrain from using the language of oppression. Our cooperation with Armenia will depend on the decisions made by the government of the Republic of Armenia. We have shown our willingness to establish a mutually beneficial foundation for our relationship, based on the interests of both nations, and we are prepared to collaborate on all fronts with Armenia.”
