The “Haykakv” initiative reports that on June 12, journalists covering the incidents near the National Assembly building during the June 12 demonstrations were placed in pre-trial detention. This detention aims to investigate the violation of journalists’ rights during the events that occurred on June 12, when security forces used forceful measures against peaceful protesters near the Parliament building. Many citizens, including journalists, were injured. Avetik Chalabyan, the head of the initiative, stated during a press conference that they have received a significant amount of data regarding violations committed by the authorities. Their goal is not only to highlight the violence and methods used against journalists, but also to shed light on the actions of the security forces leadership. The initiative plans to present demonstrations that show the presence of militarized forces at peaceful rallies, the use of violence by the security forces, and the sectarian divisions within the security forces. Civil society organizations are also studying the issue, and the “Haykakv” initiative is exploring avenues of redress beyond the main court, such as the Constitutional Court or international organizations.
