China’s External Debt Surges to $2.51 Trillion, 48% in National Currency, Construction Sector Dominates
According to an official government statement from China, their external debt as of March 2024 is a staggering 2.51 trillion dollars. The National Bureau of Statistics of China, as reported by Sinhua, provides this information.
Interestingly, 48% of the total volume of China’s external debt is denominated in their national currency. Furthermore, by the end of March 2024, the construction sector was responsible for 44% of both short-term and long-term debt obligations.
