“The “No One Will Be Left Unpunished” Campaign: A Populist Show or a Failed Promise?”

The “Hraparak” newspaper reports that the campaign promising that “no one will be left unpunished” since 2018 has been a mere facade. Many cases involving past wrongdoings have been closed, some have been reconsidered, and the guilt of those involved in ongoing criminal activities is not being presented in court, despite the spread of news and the rise of populist movements.

One of these cases is the criminal trial against former mayor of Yerevan, Karen Karapetyan, initiated by former Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan. The verdict has been postponed for months, and it is expected that the defendants will be acquitted based on legal technicalities.

According to the indictment, a total of 537 million 802 thousand 150 AMD was embezzled from the state, out of which 474 million 949 thousand 600 AMD has been recovered during the investigation. It is worth noting that Argam Abrahamyan, the son of former Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, is also implicated in this case.

However, this indictment has already become outdated, and no new evidence has been presented in court, as the proceedings were expedited in October.
